Searching for a sports holiday by the water
For an accommodation and booking agency: first the spot by the conditions on the water (wind, waves, season), then your own preferences with AI, then hotels, apartments and private stays on the map – and from there straight to booking or to the booking agent.
- Conditions per spot
- A wish in your own words
- AI picks up preferences
- Spots & stays on the map
- Choose on the map
- Booking or agent
The task
People looking for a sports holiday by the water do not ask for a hotel, they ask about the conditions: Where is there wind and waves in February – for a couple, in a private apartment? A booking platform cannot answer that, and neither can a weather app. The accommodation agency wanted to answer exactly that question – and turn the answer straight into a booking.
What was built
- Spots by conditions: more than a hundred water-sports spots worldwide with statistics of good days per month over five years, plus temperatures and waves, from measuring stations where there are any, otherwise from a global dataset; plus the conditions now, the next days and the season.
- Search in your own words: the question is asked the way you would ask a person. The AI reads the preferences from it – month, wind strength, waves or flat water, courses, nightlife, adults only, hotel, apartment or private – and turns them into filters you can see and change.
- Everything on one map: matching spots and the agency's stays side by side, each with pictures, videos and a description. You choose right on the map.
- On to booking: the selection goes to booking or as a request to the booking agent – with everything the search found.
What the base map looks like can be seen at Wind at the spots: the same map with the spots, their wind and the statistics of good days – there without the stays.
Map management
The agency maintains its stays itself: as places with position, pictures, videos, text and visibility, on one or several maps, plus areas for spots and markers. New entries stay drafts until they are published. The same maps and the same management run in production on mahevi – for rowing waters, river gauges and wind spots.
Why it was fast
The building blocks were there: the map model with places, areas and management, the statistics and forecasts of the tools for wind and water levels, small controls that can appear inside a chat. What was new was mainly the agency's domain – what makes a stay, which preferences matter and how a search becomes a booking.
